Cubase 5 and Reason 5 Rewire errors
Last edited by MTGibbs; 21st April 2012 at 05:48 AM.. Reason: updating error messages
I am very, VERY excited because I have been having very similar issues since last Friday, 9 days ago! and I've been fighting with them all this time .. not EXACTLY the same issues as you but similar enough that I think my solution might well work for you and it is this:
As far as I can tell, your copies of Reason and Cubase each work fine on their own but they won't both work at the same time. Yes?
If that is so, I believe the reason lies in the Rex Shared Library.dll
It sits in C\ ... \Stinberg\Cubase<your version> folder. Chances are you have version 1.7.0. I had that, which the forums said woud be OK BUT IT'S NOT. You need version 1.7.0 Build 195 or later!
"Well, how am I suposed to get that?!?" you might ask and it would be a good question and it has taken me 5 days to find out the answer. It's pretty simple, really:
Download and install the latest version of Cubase - probably 6.5.
Go into the same folder for the new installation and copy the new version of Rex Shared Library.dll (check that it's the build mentioned above) and paste it somewhere like your desktop (you can probably see where I'm going here ...)
Uninstall both versions (the previous one won't work anyway)
Reinstall your old versions of cubase and copy back the new version of Rex Shared Library.dll that you saved on your desktop to replace the one you just reinstalled in c:\ ... \Steinberg\Cubase5
This just worked for me and I was so pleased I genuinely nearly cried - it's been SUCH a bloody nightmare.
Anyway, I hope that works for you and, if it does, PLEASE spread the word on other forums because no-one else on any of the forums has been of any help to me at all over this.
Do please let us know how that goes for you. If it doesn't work, I'm sorry - it just now worked for me.
My problem was i couldn't even launch reason receiving the next error too:
"Rewire installation failed because access to to a file or directory was denied while installing the Rex DLL in the System directory."
I found this (https://help.reasonstudios.com/hc/en...m-directory-):
This error can occur if an antivirus or backup software prevents Reason from deleting a temporary file. It is filed as a bug, and will be fixed in a future version. When Reason is starting up, the latest ReWire DLL is extracted to a temporary file. This temporary file is then compared to the ReWire DLL currently installed on the OS, to make sure ReWire is up-to-date. Once this check has been done, Reason will delete the temporary file. If the temporary file has been locked by an antivirus or backup software, preventing Reason from deleting it, the "Rewire installation Failed because access to the file or Directory was denied while installing the Rewire.dll in the system directory" alert is shown. To avoid this from happening, temporarily disable the antivirus/backup software while starting up Reason.
Note that Reason 11 and later does NOT feature ReWire, since you can use Reason 11 as a Rack Plugin in a compatible host DAW.
Hope it will help!
Hello everyone ... a classic issue and question (mostly for Mac users)
I am going through a major update soft/hardware update. How far release-wise can you push a cubase/reason on rewire, and which os10 would suits this better.
For example this is a classic setup ... Cubase 3 and Reason 3 on
Mac OS10.4 (powerpc) THIS WORKS !
Say ... Cubase 8, Reason 8, Mac OS 10.10 ?
If not, does anybody know an optimal combination ? THANKS !
